  • Chest X-ray: The non-invasive test captures detailed images of the heart, lungs, airways, and blood vessels, as well as the spinal and chest bones. Portable X-ray or bedside X-ray is also useful tool for the diagnosis and monitoring of patients in intensive care units.
  • Chest Computerized Tomography (CT) Scan: The advanced equipment uses X-ray and computer technology, but gives more detailed image outcomes than regular X-Rays, to make detailed pictures of the organs and structures within the chest.
  • Ventilation/Perfusion (V/Q) Scan: The nuclear medicine scan uses radioactive material to test airflow and blood flow in the lungs.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): The magnetic fields and radio waves create detailed images and show blood flow in the pulmonary arteries to determine the functioning of the lower right heart chamber or the right ventricle.
  • Lung (Pulmonary) Function Test: This non-invasive test requires the patient to blow air into an instrument called a spirometer to measure the capacity and strength of the lungs.
  • Echocardiogram: helps diagnose pulmonary hypertension or to determine how well treatments are working.
  • Right heart catheterization: In case, the echocardiogram indicates pulmonary hypertension, then the patient may be advised to undergo right heart catheterization for confirmation and to decide further course of action.
  • Chest Radiography: It is a reliable and important investigation, especially when clinical suspicion of tuberculosis exists but the sputum is negative.
